A Red Celebration

Happy Lunar New Year 2019 🙂

aredcelebrationstanza1

The time has come,
Joy and prosperity,
Red veils over our doors
Red for happiness,
Red for luck,
Red lanterns out on the porch.

Blessings from married relatives
To whom we say, “Thank you.”
Red packets for you and I,
And here’s an orange or two for you.

A tour of visits to our families
And friends whom we love so dear,
Whom we only meet sometimes
Once or twice a year.

So have a prawn,
Have a fish,
Dumplings and
Vegetables too

Raise your cup,
Here’s a toast
“Happy new year”
From me to you

Going Home

A poem for Chinese New Year 2019

Going Home (Part 1)
Chinese New Year 2019: Going Home (Part 1), a poem by Haunting Angel

While birds fly back to their nests,
Men flock back to their hometowns,
Taking their wives and children along
From sun up ’til sun down

Crossing over seas and bridges
To get to grandma’s place
Just in time for a steamboat dinner
And a smile on grandpa’s face

Abalone, prosperity,
Dumplings like gold and silver;
Prawns for laughter
Fishes for more,
Coversations that never bore.

Christmas: For Less and More (Full Poem)

2018: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

water-lilies-3578444_1280

Water lilies in a pond

Filled with sweet perfume

Throw in a penny, make a wish

And see if it would bloom

If it doesn’t,

Throw in a few more

And see what it would do

Would it open on a cloudy day,

Unfold its petals for you?

Sell your car,

Go to the market,

And buy yourself a friend

Can you guarantee he’ll be with you

‘Til the very end?

How about peace?

Would sleeping pills

And a little codeine do?

An army for your nightmares

‘Til the sky is bright and blue?

Many a problem in the world

Does money seem to sort,

But once in awhile, we stop to ponder

Why it’s fallen short

Of our demands and expectations

On those unfortunate days

When with it, in desperation

We still can’t get our way

On this Christmas,

Let us pause; let us appreciate

Love, joy, peace, and friendships,

They don’t depreciate

And do this if we can,

Every day, make our days worthwhile

So if we get to heaven,

Our treasure would be stocked up in a pile

Touches of Heaven

Spread the love, Plant the seed

Telephone calls from old friends – Smiling faces on both ends

Oh yes, the memories were great – A kiss on my very first date

Umbrella in a storm to dread – In a stranger’s hand over my head

Choir of angels, Christmas day – Chicken soup, no need to pay

Hands to lift when you are down – Hot cocoa, love all around

Expect nothing in return – Love’s not something that you earn

Sleepy heads on overtime – Here’s a blanket for the meantime

Out of the darkness, into the light – Soup for an orphan, a kiss goodnight

Frozen grapes in the summer heat – Food when you don’t deserve to eat

Hyacinths and marigolds – Bless those lovely hearts of gold

Everywhere they walk, they go – Each one an unsung hero

A gift with no strings attached – God’s grace can’t be outmatched

Very precious, priceless indeed – When we help each other in need

Encourage someone, do a good deed – Spread the love, plant the seed

New springs bloom for a tomorrow – For a time with much less sorrow

Marooned

A gibberish poem by glassEyed

I am made of gibberish

Gibberish cells

Gibberish tissues

Gibberish particles

Gibberish ideas

Gibberish tastes;

It began with me breathing in gibberish,

The way one drinks in reality –

Hesitantly, hesitantly,

Inevitably.

Now I have been named gibberish names

Clothed in gibberish drapes

I speak a gibberish tongue

Draw gibberish on my palms.

See they say to leave you gotta get lost

So I got lost in gibberish the way one gets lost in reality –

Willingly, willingly,

Inevitably.

Marooned in a world of symmetry,

Of rhyme and parabolas, of directions and rulers

Gibberish became my raft to reach nowhere land –

Which does not exist but exists in its non-existence

The way gibberish exists in my existence,

(Seeping through all the pores of my being)

But somehow the world says is non-existent.

Dead Silence

come Closer

YOU. Yes, you.
Now let me look at you
My brown eyes, dead
but they are open still

My lips don’t part
Not a sound, not a word,
Just a breath of flowers
To cover this corner

Blue, purple, pink, red
Golden rays of sunshine,
Can’t show it on my face;
Can’t contain it in my mind

Make sense of these colours
Or would you call it nonsense?
Call it what you will,
This EXPLOSION in my silence

Fond Memories

Oh, where can my doggy be?

dog-crop-flip-BW

Finding leads
On where my doggy could be.
No one seems to know
Dead or alive; where is he?

Missing my best friend:
Emotions evoking
Memories
Of calm little doggy
Running up to greet me,
In my constant company.
Extinguish not the lamp,
Searching must go on.
